Ambassador Elman Abdullayev, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the African Union welcomed the distinguished audience, among them the honorary guests - H.E. Mr. Thomas Kwesi Quartey, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ambassador Minata Samate, Commissioner for Political Affairs of the African Union, Dr. Marcos Tekle, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and briefed them about the outcomes of NAM Baku Summit, as well as the chairmanship priorities of Azerbaijan.

Honorary guests delivered speeches and shared their thoughts on how important the Non-Aligned Movement is for Africa and their readiness to support Azerbaijan in realizing its ambitious chairmanship agenda.

Mr. Yalchin Rafiyev, Director of International Security Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, presented the vision of chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Non-Aligned Movement in the context of African continent. He underlined that the journey of Azerbaijani NAM Chairmanship is starting from Africa and this is yet another manifestation of the importance that the incumbent chairmanship attaches to the establishment of standing cooperation and coordination mechanism between NAM and African Union.
